    2021-22 Evaluation Updates (revised 1/14/22)

If you have questions, please reach out to Alyson Kendrick or Marissa McClish for phone conversations and/or virtual meetings.

Per 2021 Nevada legislation, there will be no SLOs for the 2021-22 school year.  The final evaluation rating will be solely based on the qualitative rubric ratings.  SLOs will resume as a component of the evaluation in the 2022-23 school year.

Also, per 2021 legislation, class size ratios may positively affect some teacher evaluation ratings.  Click here for more information.

A crosswalk of the Teacher Evaluation Rubric with the National Standards for Quality Online Teaching to assist with understanding how indicators may “look” in a distance learning or hybrid environment is available here (and under the "Distance Learning Evaluation Resources" tab on this website).

    40th Day Observation Guidance

The recommendation is to focus on Standard 1 Planning and Preparation for 40th Day Observations for first year Probation A teachers.  If there is evidence of ineffective performance within other standards, they should be noted in the 40th Day Observation.

By focusing on Planning and Preparation, we can support these new teachers with how their planning is playing out in the classroom, virtual or in person.  You might even focus the preconference and post conference on a few indicators within the standard. If there are any concerns of less than effective performance with an employee, the indicators of concern must still be addressed in post observation conversations and on the final evaluation.

    Evaluation Timeline Changes (NEW!)

To reduce the burden on Administrators as we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is recommended that evaluations focus on one or two standards within the employee's evaluation rubric for the 2021-2022 evaluation cycle.  The standards can be chosen solely by administrators and/or in collaboration with their employees.

While all standards and indicators must be scored on the Qualitative Rating, for this year, the annual Evaluation Narrative may reflect one or two standards of focus if the employee is effective or higher in all indicators within their evaluation rubric.

Additionally, we will be adjusting the annual evaluation timeline.  All evaluations must be complete in MyPGS by May 13, 2022, for all employees who are effective or higher.  Evaluations for employees who are less than effective will be due April 18, 2022.  The balanced calendar evaluation timelines can be found at:  https://washoe.truenorthlogic.com/ia/empari/tab/Resources?_ct=Resources

For ESP evaluations, we will not require an annual ESP evaluation for any post-probationary ESP’s who are effective or higher.  For less than effective ESP’s an annual evaluation will still be required.  Additionally, probationary ESP’s will continue to have their 3-, 6-, and 9-month evaluations as scheduled.

Removal of an Annual Evaluation for Late Hire licensed staff

Previously, if an employee is a Late Hire, their Administrator is required to complete an Annual Evaluation, on either all or half the standards, based on how late the employee was hired.  This has proved confusing each year for the employee and evaluator.  Late Hire employees are still be required to receive 80th and/or 120th Day Formal Observations (based on hire dates), but the Annual Evaluation scoring has been removed.  An annual narrative is available as an option in MyPGS.
