Amanda Cox

6th grade Math/Science Lead

I am Amanda Cox and I will be the 6th grade Math/Science Lead at Marce Herz this year. This is my 23rd year in education. I taught for ten years at Eagle Valley Middle School in Carson City. I then transferred to Washoe County and taught one year of K-4 special ed at Hunsberger. This is when I learned that I prefer the older kiddos. I have been in the regular sixth grade class ever since. I was born in southern California, but moved to Carson City when I was 5. I have lived in either Reno or Carson ever since. I went to UNR to get my BS and Grand Canyon University for my masters. I am nationally board certified, and in the process of renewing. I have been married for 13 years and have two stepdaughters.  My husband and I have two dogs. We have property at Lake Davis and spend a lot of time camping, reading, hiking, kayaking, fishing (well he does) there in the summer/fall. In the winter we love to snowshoe. I love sports, but football is my FAVORITE. I am a huge Patriots fan- I have been since I was in 6th grade and Doug Flutie was their quarterback. I am still dealing with Brady and Gronk going to Tampa Bay. I won’t lie, it has been hard on me.

Danielle Adkins

6th Grade ELA/SS

Hello! My Name is Danielle Adkins, and I teach 6th grade ELA/Social Studies.  This will be my 6th year teaching, with all 6 having been in 6th grade.  This age group is quirky and weird and just the type of people I like being around.

I was born and raised in Prescott, Arizona and am one of 7 kids. Over the last 10 years I have lived in Arizona, Kansas, Texas, and now Nevada due to my Husband’s career.  Reno/Tahoe has stolen my heart and I would love for this area to be our forever home.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Arizona State University in 2010 and completed my Master’s Degree in 2020 through Grand Canyon University.

My husband and I have a 2-year-old daughter, Hazel.  We have one dog: Duke the Pit Bull.  We love hiking, paddle boarding, playing darts and surrounding ourselves with good friends.

I am creative, innovative, a little loud, and I have a huge heart. My classroom is usually a buzz and at times, I will show up in a costume! I love Harry Potter and am not afraid to show it.  My happy place is my classroom helping students grow their confidence as scholars.
