• High School opportunities in Washoe County School District

    Washoe County School District is proud of the wide array of high school educational programs that are available to students in our community. These include zoned traditional comprehensive high schools that offer a variety of courses and programs to help prepare students for a wide range of careers and educational paths, to career and technical schools and college preparatory programs that help prepare students for college and careers by providing them with academic and technical skills, real-world experience, and training for a variety of careers. 

    For students interested in The Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology (AACT), the Debbie Smith Career & Technical Education Academy (DSCTE), Wooster High’s International Baccalaureate (IB) program or Wooster High’s Bilingual Education program the initial application deadline is Oct. 18, 2024. More information can be found below. 

    For students interested in Truckee Meadows Community College High School, the application period opens Dec. 9, 2024 and closes on Feb. 28, 2025. See below for dates and times for TMCCHS’s information nights coming soon. 

    For students wishing to attend a traditional comprehensive high school other than the one for which they are zoned, they must apply through the School of Choice program. The initial fall window application deadline for School of Choice is Oct. 24, 2024. For more information and to apply, visit the School of Choice webpage.     The Debbie Smith Career and Technical Education Academy is set to open in August of 2025. They are an advanced career and technical academy that provides access to college pathways as well as career certifications. Students will leave Debbie Smith prepared for the future they choose through the real life, relevant, and rigorous curriculum that all students will have access to. Debbie Smith will have the following academies: nursing and nursing assistant, building construction and technology, biomedical, marketing and multimedia, natural resources and animal sciences, welding and metalworking, teaching and training, engineering and manufacturing, and culinary with hospitality and tourism.     International Baccalaureate is a rigorous, college preparatory program, where students gain the valuable college and career skills of critical thinking, problem solving, time management, writing, and research, and earn an International Diploma or a Career Certificate. The primary objective is to provide students with a balanced, integrated curriculum in all academic areas while focusing on analytical, critical, and creative thinking, as well as the discipline necessary for future success.     Bilingual Education is a continuation for students who have participated in K-8 dual-language Spanish/English immersion programs, as well as an opportunity for Spanish Heritage speakers to develop their language and academic skills in Spanish, it's comprised of Math, History and Spanish Language Arts (SLA) taught in Spanish, coupled with Science, English Language Arts (ELA) and PE/Electives taught in English.     Truckee Meadows Community College High School (TMCC HS) offers a unique opportunity for motivated 10th-12th grade students to earn both a high school diploma and college credits simultaneously, working toward a certificate of achievement or an associate degree. This program provides a mature, supportive environment where students engage in a challenging, project-based curriculum designed to foster critical thinking and high academic achievement. Students benefit from small class sizes, flexible scheduling, tuition-free college credits, and access to college resources, labs, and activities. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, good attendance, and behavior, and must not be credit deficient. Applications open on December 9, 2024 and close February 28, 2025. The school features 14 science labs, five computer labs, a culinary arts center and child development lab, an extensive fine arts wing which houses the visual arts, music, drama with a 500 seat performing arts theatre, a highly functional library and career center, and a 3,000 seat regional gymnasium.
