An exciting new chapter begins.
PreK-8 Feasibility Study:
Washoe County School District (WCSD) completed a PreK-8 Feasibility Study to look at whether to make Pine Middle School and/or Traner Middle School a Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade school (PreK-8) in the future. This study was based, in part, on a recommendation in connection with the 2023 Facility Modernization Plan (FMP). This option represented an opportunity to expand family choice and access to new education pathways, tailored to the needs of our communities and was initially discussed ut of community conversations in 2023.
The district’s consultant, CannonDesign, engaged district administrators, teachers, parents, and community members in this study. A task force reviewed data and discussed the PreK-8 model. Their work included review and input from existing districts using this model throughout the nation. Community meetings were held in the Pine Middle School and Traner Middle School communities.
On January 28, 2025, the WCSD Board of Trustees (BOT) accepted the PreK-8 Study and the recommendation that Pine Middle School (~2026) and Traner Middle School (~2029) are repurposed as modern PreK-5 schools.
